Proper brushing requires at least two minutes of motion.  A fluoride toothpaste, and a soft bristle brush designed for effective plaque removal should be used.  While brushing be sure to use short, gentle strokes and clean each side of every tooth, paying special attention to areas around fillings, and gum lines.

Brushing:

Brushing may be a chore.  But it is essential for clean healthy teeth.  Many children and adults rarely remember to brush.  Brushing is the key to keeping your teeth.  Conversely, merely putting toothpaste in your month and brushing for 30 seconds does not constitute good oral hygiene.

Flossing.
If you do not floss, then you are leaving 35% of your tooth surface untouched and uncleaned.  Flossing should be a daily routine.  To floss, start by sliding the floss between the teeth and gently move it up and down along the sides of the teeth.  Make sure to clean below the gum line.  "Take a moment to check the gums for symptoms of gum disease, such as soreness, puffiness, bleeding and redness.  If you think that these signs are present then visit you dentist."

Dental Visits

There is a proverb that says "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure".  With that in mind, we recommend that a visit to your dentist for regular check-ups and professional cleanings, will help in keeping your pearly whites, pearly white.  These visits are important.  Your dentist will also check for oral cancer, gum disease and other potentially serious problems.  The preventative care steps you take can help in keeping the minor problems from becoming major problems.
